Chinese equipment maker ZTE is reducing the gap between existing technology and the next generation LTE systems with a USB dongle that provides up to 42Mbit/s downloads, now launched in Greece with operator COSMOTE. It is believed to use an HSPA+ chipset from chip partner Qualcomm.
The MF680 is a high-performance modem that brings the speed of third generation (3GSM) data communications closer to the requirements of 4G networks (often referred to as LTE), with download and upload speeds of up to 42Mbps and 5.76Mbps respectively designed specifically for HSPA+ networks.
The modem is equipped with a USB slider connector that can be easily adjusted and plugged into any USB interface and also supports a MicroSD card with data storage of up to 32 GB.
“Since we launched our first 21.6Mbps HSPA+ USB modem in Greece in 2009, there has been growing demand for higher bandwidth and more reliable data services. ZTE’s MF680 offers consumers a much better experience by accessing COSMOTE’s high-speed mobile broadband network, combined with a stylish form factor and high-end technology,” said Mr. Zhang Yadong, General Manager of ZTE’s mobile broadband division.
This is the first time this new dual carrier HSPA+ mobile broadband device has been launched anywhere in the world, and it pushes WCDMA systems another step closer to the requirements of 4G technologies.
